POTLUCKS AND PATHWAYS
This is the potluck of all potlucks. This potluck will work like normal—everyone brings one dish and shares with everyone else—but there are some additional bonuses to the typical smorgasbord of food. At this summer’s potluck on July 15th from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., we are eating food, playing games, getting to know others at DTI and sharing thoughts.
If you’re interested in joining in the DTI atmosphere, join our potluck Wednesday, July 15th.
A NIGHT TO REMEMBER
We never really thought a woman could dance all night long in three-inch stilettos, but we were wrong. On June 13th, DTI’s Peer Mentor Maria Gomez and Uriel Rodriguez took their vows and celebrated their new status as husband and wife. After we ate a delicious meal at the wedding reception, the dance floor had very little open space for the rest of the night. There were a few traditions to go through before the dance party could begin.
After the bouquet was thrown, and after our DTI tutor Satyam Singh caught the garter belt, the infamous groom toss began. As Chopin’s “death march” song played (dun, dun, de, dum—dum da dum da dum da dum) a group of young men joined in a circle on the middle of the dance floor, and suddenly the groom was thrown up into the air. Next we saw a shoe come off, and as the group made their way across the dance floor towards Maria, they continued to toss Uriel high into the air, and clothes continued to fling across the room. Once the music stopped and the groom was set down next to his wife, and Maria helped Uriel get back into order.
Congratulations, Maria and Uriel! We all love you and wish you a lifetime of happiness!
